Atlas City is a living place run by citizens who only speak their own tongue. Order a coffee in Arabic or go without one. The city keeps moving whether you are ready or not.
No account needed to play. Nothing to install.
How it works
01
Walk up to a citizen and say something. They answer in their own language, with the reading under every word — tap a word to hear it, tap again to hear it slowly.
02
A sentence you built yourself pays. So does an errand run in the right language, a story read, an exam passed. That is where the city’s money comes from.
03
Spend it on roads, houses and landmarks. Each district stays shut until your level in its language opens it — so the skyline is a record of what you can actually say.
The districts
A district's buildings are locked until you can hold a conversation in its language. Reach the second level in Arabic and the Grand Souk will trade with you; reach it in Japanese and the noodle house opens its counter. The lock is not a paywall — it is the point. You are not buying the city, you are earning the right to live in it.
What a lesson is
Amira runs the café. She will not switch to English, because she does not speak it. So you order in Arabic — and every word carries its own reading underneath, which you can tap to hear, once at speed and again slowly.
Words you are offered go into your message rather than sending it, so the sentence you send is one you built. Arabic is set with full vowel marks, because a learner cannot read what is not written.
Welcome! What would you like to drink?
An Arabic coffee, please.
Who lives there
Every citizen carries a temperament, something they want, and something they are hiding. They remember what you said last time. They think their own thoughts, in their own language, whether you are watching or not.
Amira 🇦🇪
Café owner
Generous, quick, and quietly proud of her coffee. She will correct you, kindly, every single time.
Yuki 🇯🇵
Noodle chef
Precise about broth and about grammar. Her counter seats six, and she remembers what you ordered.
Amélie 🇫🇷
Banker
Impatient with small talk, generous with a loan if your case is made properly — in French.
Nabil 🇦🇪
Taxi driver
Talks the whole way there. Hail him and the ride is a conversation with a fare at the end of it.
For parents
The citizens are characters, not strangers. There is no chat with other players, no feed, no timer counting down at a child, and nothing to buy inside the game.
Every character is written for the game. There is nobody real to talk to, so there is nobody real to worry about.
One subscription, or the free city. No coins, no chests, no offers aimed at a child.
Every non-Latin word carries its romanisation and can be heard aloud, so a beginner is never stuck on a script.
If you bring your own model key, it never leaves the device it was typed into. It is never uploaded with a save.
The city is kept on the device, and mirrored to the account if you make one. Progress in a language is never tied to one city.
Nothing punishes a day off. The city is simply there when you come back, a little further on.
Pricing
Every conversation is written by a language model, and those cost real money to run — so that is the part a subscription pays for. Everything else stays open.

No. Walk in and the city is yours on this device. An account only matters when you want the same city on your phone as on your laptop.
French, Arabic, Japanese, Russian, Chinese, Spanish and Hindi. Four levels each, earned by passing an exam rather than by grinding points.
Both. It was built for an adult beginner who is bored of flashcards, and it happens to be exactly what a curious ten-year-old wants: a city to run.
Because every reply is generated, and generating costs money. When the free replies are spent the citizens fall back to their own written lines — the city keeps going, it just gets less inventive.
The city does: it saves itself on your device and the simulation never needs the network. Conversation does not — that part needs a model to answer.
Yes, and it stays on your device. Bring an Anthropic, OpenAI or local key and the citizens will think with it instead of ours.
Walk in and try it. The account can wait until you have something worth saving.
